1. Prosiecka Valley – the entrance to the valley

Prosiecka Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in Liptov. If you have younger children, you don’t need to walk the whole route. The entrance section alone is well worth it, with little bridges, rock faces, and a babbling stream along the way. Children can enjoy discovering nature, while parents will appreciate the welcome shade on hot days.

If you’re in a hurry, take a short detour to Červené Piesky Waterfall. Take care, though: the descent to the waterfall is a little more demanding.

2. Kvačianska Valley and the Oblazy Mills

This is one of Liptov’s most popular family walks. The route leads through the forest to the historic Oblazy watermills, which look as though they have come straight out of a fairy tale. At the mills, you can stop for a rest, tell the children how flour was once milled, or feed the always-hungry local goats. 🙂

Along the way, it’s worth stopping at several viewpoints with beautiful views of the valley, including Kobyliny Viewpoint andMalý Roháč Viewpoint. You can also set the children a little detective challenge: can they find the rock that looks like a human face?

Educational boards line the whole route, so children and adults alike can pick up plenty of interesting facts along the way.

3. Educational Trail through Čutkovská Valley

This easy walk leads through beautiful natural surroundings beside a stream, with little bridges in several places. Along the route, you will find rest areas where you can toast something over the fire, as well as six information boards. At the end of the route, you can enjoy refreshments or sit by the water. As the trail follows an asphalt road, it is also suitable for buggies, bicycles, and balance bikes.

If you’re walking, you can continue from the crossroads for around another 15 minutes to the valley’s best-known spots: Jelení Waterfall and the Jamnišné Waterfalls.

Tip: at the end of the walk, take the children to the Obrovo family attraction

Obrovo takes its name from the Slovak word for “giant” and refers to the local legend of Čutko, the last of the Carpathian giants, who is said to live in Čutkovská Valley. You’ll find trampolines, rope obstacles, swings, slides, and various games, including giant Ludo, as well as archery.

Obrovo is open only during the summer months.

4. Bear Trail in Hrabovská Valley

The Bear Trail is a short educational trail in Hrabovská Valley, designed especially to keep children entertained. Along the way, wooden bears and seven fun information boards introduce them to the life of the largest predator in our forests. The route is easy, starts by the reservoir, and leads through pleasant woodland below Sidorovo, with a gentle climb.

At the end of the walk, more active children can try the Tarzánia rope park or zipline at Hrabovo, or cool off in the reservoir.

TIP: In the summer months, children can also take part in the Forest Mysteries adventure game at Malinô Brdo. Take the cable car, discover the most beautiful parts of the resort, keep the children entertained, spend a lovely day in nature, and perhaps even win some interesting prizes.

5. The Giant’s Trail

The Giant’s Trail connects Hrabovská Valley and Čutkovská Valley and follows a pleasant themed route in the footsteps of the giant Čutko. Along the way, you’ll discover wooden fairy-tale features: things the giant Čutko lost. Curious to know what they are?

The route follows a forest road with a gentle climb. It is only partly asphalted, but you can still manage it by bike. When visiting the Giant’s Trail, you can also make use of the many services and attractions in both valleys, including Tarzánia, zipline, and Obrovo.

6. Havránok Archaeological Open-Air Museum

Havránok combines a walk, history, and beautiful views of Liptovská Mara. Children can discover reconstructed Celtic dwellings, while parents enjoy the unique atmosphere of this special place.

Tip: After visiting Havránok, take a short walk to the little church or to the dam wall.

The little church at Liptovská Mara is an iconic place associated with the Liptov region. Sit down on a bench and enjoy the wonderful view of Kriváň and the whole of Liptovská Mara.

From the church, you can also follow the asphalt road on foot to the dam wall. Walk along it and you will see the lower Bešeňová reservoir. Children can make the walk along the dam wall more fun on scooters or balance bikes.

7. Jánska Valley

You can also enjoy a pleasant walk through Jánska Valley, which offers a lovely combination of nature, relaxation, and several interesting stops that even younger children can manage. Follow the educational trail and continue to the observation tower above Liptovský Ján, where you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the valley and the surrounding mountains. Who will be first to the top?

Please note: the path to the observation tower is quite steep and may be slippery after rain.

TIP: Another popular stop is the Teplica mineral spring and the outdoor thermal pool, where you can even soak your tired feet. 😊

8. Vrbické Mountain Lake, Demänovská Valley

The short walk to the largest natural mountain lake in the Low Tatras is one of the loveliest easy trips in Liptov. The area around the lake is perfect for relaxing and taking photos. Children can watch ducks and fish in the water, look for frogs, or admire the tall trees reflected on the lake’s surface. They can also burn off some energy at the Vtáčik children’s playground.

Afterwards, stop for something tasty to eat and drink at Mikulášska Chalet, right next to the lake, and enjoy a well-earned rest. The chalet also has a large outdoor children’s playground on its grounds.

9. Háj Nicovô, Liptovský Mikuláš

Háj Nicovô is a great choice for a short walk with children when you want beautiful views without a long climb. At the top, you’ll find a memorial, an outdoor children’s playground and, best of all, a panoramic view of Liptovský Mikuláš, Liptovská Mara, and the surrounding mountains. The route is easy and suitable even for younger children.

Háj Nicovô is a popular spot for picnics, photography, and flying kites.

TIP: You can make the walk even more fun with the interactive “Forest Park Discovery” app, which offers a quiz, augmented reality, and interesting information about nature. The whole family can solve interactive tasks and search for virtual animals along the way.

10. Žiarska Valley and the area around the salaš sheep farm

You can make this trip as flexible as you like: either a short walk, or a relaxed afternoon with lunch or dinner at a traditional salaš (a small-scale mountainside sheep farm).

The easy terrain makes the area suitable for families with buggies and younger children. The atmosphere of the salaš, the large outdoor playground, and the animals nearby will appeal to children, while parents will appreciate traditional Liptov dishes, local specialities, peace, and nature.
