Sliač travertines

Sliač travertines lie in the foothills of the Low Tatras in the Liptov Basin, between the villages of Liptovské Sliače and Partizánska Ľupča, in the protection zone of the Low Tatras National Park.

In addition to white travertine clusters and terraces with spring craters, a rare phenomenon called mofeta can be observed here. It is a regular, variously intense outflow of gases (CO2) from a spring crater. The outcrops are sometimes very pronounced and cause the occasional death of small birds and other smaller animals. There are several never-freezing mineral springs in the locality, some of which are artificially modified to absorb water. Water from these springs is characterized by a peculiar odor and beneficial effects. The reservation also includes a small swamp with characteristic flora and fauna. The Sliač travertines can be reached via a narrow asphalt road from the settlement of Vyšný Sliač.
