Chopok – views you’ll never tire of

A cable-car trip to Chopok is one experience you won’t want to miss on a visit to Liptov. The ride over the mountain slopes offers spectacular panoramas of the Low Tatras, but it’s worth staying up on the ridge a little longer.

The new Chopok panoramic trail, at an altitude of more than 2,000 metres, combines superb views with a chance to learn more about nature. Themed stops explain how the cable cars work and introduce life in the Low Tatras National Park, while a 3D panorama helps you get to know the surrounding peaks. Other popular stops include a giant bird’s-nest swing and designer wooden loungers that can be hard to tear yourself away from. Slide Park – a new summer hit with children

The biggest new attraction this season is Slide Park – the Max the Bear adventure trail, which has been an instant hit with young visitors.

Seven themed slides introduce the animal inhabitants of the Low Tatras, from bears and lynx to chamois and golden eagles. At each stop, children can learn interesting facts about the animals and use QR codes to listen to their stories on their phones.

Combining movement, play, and nature, Slide Park is fun for the whole family. And it’s free.

Bike Park Jasná – fun on two wheels

The Demänovská Valley has plenty for cyclists too. The new Bike Park Jasná has two trails: the Flow Trail for families and less experienced riders, and the Sport Trail for those after a more energetic ride.

The gondola carries riders and their bikes comfortably uphill. Then all that’s left to do is put on your helmet and enjoy the ride back down.

If technical trails aren’t your thing, don’t worry. Liptov is one of Slovakia’s leading cycling regions, with around 850 kilometres of way-marked cycle routes of varying difficulty. With the infrastructure continuing to improve and more e-bikes available, recreational cyclists and families with children can enjoy the mountains too. E-bikes make tougher climbs more accessible and let you reach places many people might otherwise never visit.

Meet Liptov’s traditions at Salaš Priehyba

Liptov isn’t just about attractions. In summer, you can visit Slovakia’s highest-altitude sheep farm at Priehyba, where native Wallachian sheep are once again grazing. This rare breed is known for its distinctive curved horns.

Children can watch the shepherd at work, learn about the history of sheep farming, and see what traditional life on the mountain pastures was like. It’s an authentic glimpse of Liptov’s rich traditions.

Awooden ball you won’t forget

Another popular family attraction is the wooden ball run by Salaš Priehyba.

Simply buy a wooden ball and watch it make its way through a series of mechanical obstacles. Along the way, children learn about motion and gravity through play. Once the ball reaches the finish, they can take it home as a lovely souvenir of the holiday.

Often it’s the simplest experiences that stay with you longest.
