The handcrafted wooden products made in the Liptov village of Prosiek may not be perfect, but they’re original and have a spirit of their own. Our ancestors understood the beauty and strength of wood, and even in today’s modern world it still has much to offer. Burning a piece of wood is easy, but Zuzka Vozárová prefers to try to give it a “new life”. That’s why I also work with pieces that others might see as good for nothing but firewood, and try to give them a new lease of life.

My name is Zuzka Vozárová, and I create my products under the Duch dreva brand. I loved making things as a child, especially with wood, and that passion has stayed with me ever since. I’m a lawyer by profession, so woodwork is a wonderful way to switch off and get back to my roots, even if I now use more modern tools. To me, wood is more than just a material to work with. It’s part of a story written by nature, from seed to mature tree. It’s fascinating to think about how many processes and intricate details lie behind it all. Liptov is a beautiful part of Slovakia, and we’re lucky enough to experience the magic of its forests and natural surroundings every day, to learn from them, and to play our part in caring for them and helping them thrive.
