Rázus Family House

The childhood home of the most famous native of Vrbica – the poet, writer, pastor, and politician Martin Rázus (1888–1937) – stands near the Aurel Stodola housing estate in the former village of Vrbica, which until 1923 was an autonomous municipality neighbouring Liptovský Mikuláš. Since 1993, the house has served as a museum.

The original rooms of “Rázus House” are dedicated to Martin Rázus, his sister Mária Rázusová-Martáková, and their brothers Michal and Matej, who were well-known local printers. Period furnishings are complemented by photographs of the family’s life. One section of the exhibition also recalls other notable figures from Vrbica’s history.

In 2005, the exhibition was extended to include Echoes of a Little Town, charting the history of Vrbica from its earliest times to the present day. Visitors can also watch a documentary about Martin Rázus and the films Maroško and Maroško Goes to School.

The exhibition includes a small library containing works by and about the Rázus family. A printed guide introduces visitors to the family’s life and work, and to the history of Rázus House. Episodes From Life, a book shedding light on the lives of the Rázus family through poetry, prose, and photographs, is also available to buy.
