Liptov traditions – Omilienci chodia

When someone is sad, they hum a song. When someone is happy, they dance. In Liptov, singing and dancing were widespread. People, alongside their hard work in the fields under the Tatras, created the Liptov folklore that still survives today. Upper and Lower Liptov form a single region, but the diversity of its folklore is truly rich. While spring is welcomed with a choral procession in Važec, on the other side of Liptov the “jánovačka” is being prepared. Tradition bearers pass on their enthusiasm for folklore, and young people embrace it with joy. The folk costume suits every woman, and a handsome man knows how to nurture beauty in a woman.
