<\/span>Poprad-Tatry Airport and the airline Wizz Air today launched a direct, regular air connection between Poprad and the Polish city of Gda\u0144sk. The Slovak mountains are a popular destination for Polish visitors for both summer and winter holidays. From today, they can now be reached by a 90-minute flight from Gda\u0144sk.<\/strong>
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This step represents the successful relaunch of the air route between the two regions. It is the first connection since 2012, following a break of more than 13 years. The renewal was made possible thanks to the effort and close cooperation of regional partners, including the destination management organizations Region High Tatras and Region Liptov, together with Poprad-Tatry Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first flight on the new Gda\u0144sk\u2013Poprad-Tatry route was not only a means of transport, but also a symbolic link between iconic tourist destinations of two friendly countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Symbolically, lightly salted seawater and sand from the Baltic Sea arrived in the Tatras today from Gda\u0144sk as a sign of openness, friendship, and movement. On the return journey to Gda\u0144sk, crystal-clear water from a mountain stream and a spruce branch will travel from the Tatras \u2014 symbols of purity, mountain authenticity, and good luck on the journey.

\u201c<\/span>The new connection will operate twice a week during the winter season, on Thursdays and Sundays. It has been designed to support both short weekend stays and longer holidays in the High Tatras and in the Liptov region. The air connection covers not only the main winter season, but also spring, including the Easter holidays and popular May weekends<\/strong>,\u201d said Darina Bartkov\u00e1, Director of the Regional Tourism Organization REGION LIPTOV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the High Tatras and Liptov regions, this represents a strategic boost to tourism. The direct air connection will allow Polish visitors to reach Slovak ski resorts and recreational areas quickly and comfortably. After a short flight from the Baltic Sea, holidaymakers can be in hotels or directly at water parks or ski slopes in the High Tatras and Jasn\u00e1 within approximately one hour.

This level of comfort increases the competitiveness of the Slovak mountains compared to other European destinations and gives Slovak hoteliers the opportunity to attract new clients for both the winter and spring seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c<\/span>The route is currently scheduled to operate until June 5, 2026. After the winter flight season, departure days will change to Mondays and Fridays<\/strong>,\u201d said J\u00e1n Pito\u0148\u00e1k, Director of Poprad\u2013Tatry Airport.

<\/span>\u201cIn just the first ten months of this year, the High Tatras were visited by 30% more Polish tourists than last year. This is the highest number of visitors from Poland in the past decade, and thanks to the new air connection, it has the potential to grow further. At the same time, the connection with Gda\u0144sk is also a small step toward opening up to tourists from Northern Europe, as there are currently no other air connections in this direction,\u201d<\/strong> said Lucia Bla\u0161kov\u00e1, Director of the Regional Tourism Organization REGION HIGH TATRAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ambition of the regional organizations and the airport is not only to maintain this air connection, but also to extend it throughout the entire year. A positive sign is that the airline has confirmed strong demand for tickets in both directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
