Did you hear the latest news? What news? Well, those in the Liptov region!
Jasná, Nízke Tatry
There is always something new going on in Liptov. So for example, let’s take a look at Demänovska Valley. Nowadays, it is a beautiful spot in Slovakia, but back in the day, it was cursed. Truly. At least that is what people, who lived there, used to say. Well, it depends on what we call living. Because the river which ran through it was so thundering and scary, that everybody kept away from it as far as they could.
The valley was lined with pointy rocks, reminding dragon’s teeth. And for real, those were the actual dragon’s teeth. The teeth of a three headed dragon, which lived in the biggest underground cave. What was he doing there?
There is always something new going on in Liptov. So for example look at our town. Or let me be more precise, in my town. Because my town and I, we share the name – Mikuláš (Nicolaus). The town’s name is Liptovský Mikuláš, and people call me Saint Nicolaus. Have you ever heard of me? I would be surprised, if not.
Čutkovská dolina, Ružomberok
There is always something new going on in Liptov. So for example, in our sheep farm. If you want to know where it is, you need to look for it in Čutkovska Valley. Yes, that one, named by the giant Čutko. Nobody has seen the giant for a long, long time, but you can meet the Sheepers in the sheep farm. The Sheepers are a sheep family. The father is Baltazár Ram, his wife, the mother, is Olinka Sheeper. The father, Mr. Ram, has horns turned to the backside and when he orders to go to pasture, his bleating can be heard even in the next farm. Mrs. Sheeper takes good care of her visage and smells according to the newest natural trends and her wool is carefully curled on all occasions. They have one and only daughter, a little lamb, white as the whitest wintery snow. Father Ram gives a signal to go to the pasture every morning and mother Sheeper sings this song:
There is always something going on in Liptov. For example, in the village of Východná. Do you know where Východná is located? Nevertheless, in Liptov. And why is our village named Východná?
Malinô Brdo, Ružomberok
There is always something new going on in Liptov. So for example, let’s see what is happening in the Hrabovská Valley, where the Bear Path leads. Right there, in our Hrabovská Valley, a bear cub was born. He had no idea what so ever, that he was the Eurasian brown bear. He only knew his name was Lacko. Beary Lacko. His mom Matilda loved him dearly, she spoiled him, indeed. But if she hugged you like she hugged her bear son, you would have ended up with broken bones and smothered. Well, that’s how bear love looks like.
Čutkovská dolina, Ružomberok
There is always something new going on in Liptov. So for example, let’s see what is going on in the Čutkovská Valley. You say that you don’t know where the Čutkovská Valley is located? Everybody knows that. The Čutkovská Valley is nearby the town of Ružomberok. But we can say it also in a different way. Ružomberok is nearby the Čutkovská Valley. But do you know who named it the Čutkovská Valley?
There is always something new going on in Liptov. Janko and Janka found in the Žiarska Valley a sign that said – THE LAND OF AGHARTHA KINGDOM – ST. BARBORA, PART BEAR TUNNEL. The dwarf is a small man living in tunnels and underground corridors. When people started to mine ore, the dwarfs either helped them or made their work harder. It depended on the miners characters. Either they were good and respectful or stingy, mean and too proud. The tunnel! Wasn’t this word written on the sign? The Bear Tunnel?
Aquapark Tatralandia, Liptovský Mikuláš
There is always something new going on in Liptov. So for example, what is happening between the High and Low Mountain, nearby a Liptov sea… Oh, you didn’t know we have the Liptov sea? Well, the tourists know it by Liptovská Mara. So let me say it once again. Close to the Liptov sea, between the High and Low Mountain, there lived two siblings. Their names were Tajo and Tara.
There is always something new going on in Liptov. So for example, what is happening in Lúčky. Would you like to know where it is situated, actually? Let me tell you: In the place, where the crickets chirp, where the dew falls down on softie shoes, where the owl growls at the cuckoos, where the bread is baked from the finest flour, where even the door handles have their little hands, you will be surely lucky to find this place. In the Choč Mountains not far away from the town of Ružomberok, where sparrows preen their fluffy feathers. In Lúčky, a small brooklet Lúčanka flows fiercely down into the Lúčky Waterfall. Lúčky, Lúčanka, Lúčky Waterfall…Lúčky means “meadows”. Are you asking why so many meadow names? Well, because our river and underground streams are special. They are miraculous! Even the sun washes its sunbeams to make them shiny. That is why our water is so healthy, warm and healing. If you want, I will tell you how it all happened:
Vodný park Bešeňová
There is always something new going on in Liptov. So for example, what is happening beneath the Mt Choč. Once upon a time, a girl lived beneath Choč and she had a beautiful hair in a lovely braid. She had a small butterfly-shaped hair clip on her braid, which was given to her by her grandfather. That little girl’s name was Barborka, but everybody called her Baška. And what about that butterfly? Did it also have some lovely name? No, it didn´t. It was an ordinary butterfly hair clip, which task was to hold together Baška’s hair. It looked a bit used, because it served for some time. Well, to tell the truth, it was really smeared. Baška decided to buy a new one.
Villa Betula, Liptovská Sielnica
There is always something new going on in Liptov. For example, in Babyland. Oh, you don’t know where it is? Well, you can get there by three different routes. The first, east route starts in Liptovský Mikuláš, goes through Liptovský Trnovec and ends in Liptovská Sielnica – and you reached the spot! The second, west route, starts in Ružomberok, goes through Bešeňová and Potok. And the third route, the north one is leading from Zuberec, Orava region. As you can see, all routes lead to Babyland.
