TOUR OF JÁNOŠÍK – GUIDE SERVICE OF THE TOWN
Follow the footsteps of legendary bandit´s captain Juro Jánošík.
It was in 1713 that the legendary bandit´s captain Juraj Jánošík was tried and executed in Liptovský Mikuláš. Listen to a gripping story of facts and myths, desire for freedom and justice, but also cruelty and fear. Go back to times when even a minor offence was punished hard and torturing was a regular procedure of interrogation. Visit the Torture chamber – exposition in the Museum of Janko Kráľ and learn how Jánošík must have suffered before the final verdict was delivered. Jánošík´s bravery and resistance went down well among the folk and they were remembered through children´s games, legends, songs, literature, theatre, visual art and films. A minor role in the famous film “Jánošík” was played by the actor Adam Matejka, who used to live in Liptovský Mikuláš, in Bottova Street. Today, there is a plaque on the house he lived in to remember him. The tour ends in a symbolic way – at a scaffold next to the Jánošík Hotel, in the street called Jánošíkovo nábrežie (Jánošík´s waterfront).
