Liptovský Mikuláš is situated in northern Slovakia. It is surrounded by massive mountains of Low Tatras (Low Tatras National Park), West Tatras (Tatra National Park) and Choc Mountains.

Liptovský Mikuláš is undoubtedly an attractive tourist destination. For its colourfulness and treated houses, the historical centre of the town is an attractive place for visitors. Dominant landmarks like the Church of St Mikuláš, a former county house, and Illesházy Mansion are significant. There are 3 museums, 2 galleries near the centre, and two private galleries. The historical centre is the pedestrian zone with shops, restaurants, confectioner’s shops, cafés, and with several outdoor sitting places in summer. Pleasant environment, the Fountain Metamorphosis, and the amount of greenery and benches make the pedestrian zone a favourite resting place, enriched with a number of social events throughout the year. Days of County, Mikuláš Summer and Mikuláš Market Days are traditional events. Liptovský Mikuláš is well known for the cultural event Bridges, competitive mime exhibitions and motion theatre PAN, and for slalom races. The town is closely connected with sport and has good condition for hockey, football, slalom, volleyball, bodybuilding, BMX, tennis and table tennis. For indoor sports, there is the Liptov Arena multifunctional hall, which was built next to the Aqupark Tatralandia large-scale area, Western City and the Tarzania Rope Park.

Within 30 km there are many attractive places in the vicinity of Liptovský Mikuláš: number of hiking paths; cycling tracks; Jasná, the largest ski resort in Slovakia with about 50 km of piste; cross-country skiing traces; ski lifts; 3 thermal bathing establishments; the water reservoir Liptovská Mara; 4 caves; folk architecture; Archaeological Museum Havránok; Vlkolínec settlement (UNESCO); opportunities for doing non-traditional sports and fishing ...
